Thankful

A bunch of my friends are posting what they are thankful for each day this month. It's such a nice way to reflect on how blessed you are in life. Sometimes it is easy to focus on all the negative stuff that is happening in your life than to meditate on all the wonderful things we are blessed with.

I actually went to church yesterday. It has been a while...I think since around Easter. I've almost become one of those people that only attends church on major religious holidays. Ugh! Anyway, I went this week. The sermon was focused on giving back and serving the local community and world. My church is very outreach focused which is one of the main things that draws me to the church. They talked about a mission in Hondorus where the children in the village they serve can only go to school through 6th grade. After that it is too expensive for them to continue. I was truly blessed to have a great education all the way through college.

I encourage everyone to take some time and think about the many reasons you have to be thankful!

Blessings Monday

I haven't done one of these in a while. Mondays always seem so busy. I get to work and have to catch up on all the things I left on Friday and all the emails. And then when I come home or lunch or after work, I'm wiped out. I'll be ready for summer to be over so things can chill off for a while.

This Monday, I am thankful for Netflix. Whoever invented Netflix is amazing and a genius! I love not having to drive to Blockbuster and look through all the movies you don't want to see to find the one you're looking for. Netflix also offers a ton of options that are totally random. Most of those choices have been really bad or boring movies, but I like having the opportunity to watch something different. Every once in a while, you find a movie that is really good.

Plus, it's so awesome that we can watch our Online Queue through our PS3! Netflix has really solved my boredom issues. And since we don't have cable, it has allowed me to watch what I want without having to sit through commercials or scan hundreds of channels to find it.

Blessings Monday

I realize I haven't posted in a week. Life has been a little boring with Charles away on his vacation. I'm watched a lot of things on Netflix and I've looked at Pinterest way more than one person probably should.

This week's Blessings Monday is dedicated to the object that gets me from Point A to Point B--my car! I drive a mint green VW Beetle. It is basically my dream car!

Once upon a time when VW Beetles were being reintroduced (I think that was back in 1998 or something) I fell in love with them! I was in the 7th grade at the time and one of my teachers bought one and I was so jealous. At that time, I wanted a sunny yellow one.

In high school, my friends and I would say how we would each have one in a different color. It's amazing how much those girls have changed. One of them I cannot imagine in a million years driving a VW Beetle now. It just wouldn't fit.

My first car was a Ford Focus. It was definitely not my dream car, but it was a good car. Then in college, my dad got another car for my sister. Guess what...it was a VW Beetle. I was a little jealous.

But then after my junior year of college a series of events brought us together. Charles' car died and my parents moved to Texas. Charles bought my car, the Ford Focus, which he still drives. And because my sister had conveniently gotten into a minor fender bender which caused them to leave the car in  SC to be fixed, I was able to have the VW Beetle!

We have not always gotten along. I killed it once and had to get an engine transplant (long story that I would like to avoid telling because it was all my fault). And there have been a few other bumps in the road since then (literally and figuratively), but I am very blessed to have my dream car. It fits me perfectly and I don't know what I'll do when I have to get a new car.

Blessings Monday

It has been yet another Monday. Work was a little crazy today since it's end of month/beginning of month. That means a lot of people coming into the office to pay their rent and some people moving out when their lease ends. Monday's = all the more reason to remember what I am blessed with.

This week, in honor of Charles off exploring the world, I am going to dedicate my post to my many travels. I have been truly blessed to be able to visit some amazing places in my 26 years. Sometimes I feel awkward telling people about my travels because I don't want people to think I'm snobby or that I think I'm better than anyone else. That is not the case, at all. I've just been very fortunate.

When I was a kid, my family lived in Germany and we were able to travel to some neat places. I think one of my favorite places as a kid was Scotland. We stayed in a little cottage and milk was delivered to the door. We saw bag pipe players on the street. And everything was so green and beautiful. I can't wait to go back and see it as an adult someday.

I've been on a few cruises and those are always a blast. They always seem to involve snorkling which I am awful at! It's surprising that someone could be bad at snorkling, but I just can't bring myself to breathe out of a tube under water. It probably has something to do with the fact that I hate putting my head under water.

And of course, I've traveled to Europe twice since Charles and I got married. I love that I've had that opportunity and that I'm married to a man that wanted to experience that with me. Most people I know have barely left their home state, let alone the United States. I've seen some amazing places! I am so blessed. And I can't wait to see more!

Blessings Monday

Today's Blessings Monday is dedicated to my furry children--Calvin and Hobbes. No, I do not have hairy kids...I am talking about my kitties! They are going to be one year old this weekend.

About a year ago, I finally convinced Charles that we should adopt a kitten and we found the two most precious ones at Petsmart. They are brothers and I couldn't imagine life without them. (I always thought people were a little strange when they talked about their pets that way, but I totally understand it now.)

They provide hours of entertainment for us and are very cuddly and curious. I just love them to pieces!

Blessings Monday

I am thankful for my job. I graduated from college almost 4 years ago (that's crazy). Since graduating from college I've worked for Yankee Candle, a company called My Carolina Town, The Celebration Cottage and maybe a few other odd and end jobs. None of those jobs were full-time or really challenging. I learned things from each that was very beneficial, but nothing related to my degree or really fulfilling.

When we moved here, I spent many months searching and applying for jobs. It was so frustrating because I wasn't having any luck and I just wanted someone to give me a chance. Finally, after applying three times to The Properties at Wright Field, I was called for an interview, and then a 2nd interview and then a third interview. And then I was offered the job!

I love all the ladies I work with. They have all been so helpful and fun to spend 8 hours of the day with. I love being a Leasing Professional (like a real estate agent for one apartment community) and meeting different people. People continue to surprise me, frustrate me and confuse me, but it keeps life interesting. I am so thankful that they gave me a chance and that I can help people find a home, even if it is just an apartment home.

Blessings Monday

Some of my sorority sisters--Jenilyn, Morgan and Cheryl
I do not have a best friend that I grew up with. Moving around about every 3 years as a kid kind of messes up with making long-term friends. In college, I was in a sorority and have a good group of friends from that. It's fun to see all the different personalities and how we interact with each other. There can be drama at times, but it keeps like interesting. I was sad that not everyone from our group could come to the Alumni weekend, but I'm hoping to convince at least some of them to come up and visit soon.

One of my sisters, Cheryl, was kind of in my circle of friends in college, but for some reason we weren't very close. About a year or so after graduation, Charles and I moved back to SC and I started hanging out with Cheryl more often. I am so grateful that we did! I love hanging out with her. I would consider Cheryl to be one of my blessings. Last fall we were both going through some hard stuff and when I came down to visit, we both had some break downs and it was comforting knowing that I wasn't the only person that just broke down in tears over stuff. And she has asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding in December. I am super excited!
