Pineapple Painting

Have you ever been to one of those painting/wine parties? They are a lot of fun! You can learn a lot about painting techniques and it is always interesting to see how different everyone's paintings end up.

I went to one a while ago, but I wasn't a fan of the painting they were going to be doing. I brought my own supplies and created my own art while enjoying the company of the group.

I had seen a watercolor pineapple piece on Etsy and fell in love. I wanted to recreate it. I did not have any watercolor paints and experimented with acrylic.

Before the party, I searched for a pineapple pattern. I chose the one below (from Google) and made a stencil out of it.
I love how it turned out! The colors are fun and bright. It is very different from the piece I found on Pinterest, but that is totally fine. I have it in the downstairs half bath next to a pineapple scented candle. It goes well with my You are my Sunshine painting.

Pinterest Party Craft

A couple years ago I went to a Pinterest party for a friend's birthday. I have been meaning to share the craft I brought to the party, but have not gotten around to it until now! It was hard to decide what craft to make.
For my craft I chose a little painting project. Everyone got an 8x10 canvas. I printed out a picture of Sullivan's Island, a beach in South Carolina. This is the spot where Charles proposed to me, so it has a personal meaning and significance.

We modpodged the photo onto the canvas and then white-washed over it. On top of that we painted a sunshine and added the words You Are My Sunshine.

I have it hanging in my half bath downstairs. It makes me very happy.

Pineapple Princess

I love being a military wife! We make up all kinds of excuses to get together for girl time. Our latest social was a painting party. The group painted an American flag. Since I did that last year at another painting party, I decided to bring my own project. I painted a pineapple!

I printed this pineapple out on cardstock and cut out the black parts to make a stencil

Everyone did such a great job. See my tiny pineapple in the background?

Sister Visit

This week my sister, Delaney, came out to visit. It was nice to see her and to have our first house guest. She flew into the bay area to spend a couple of days with a friend and then I met up with them in Napa. It sounds so fancy to meet someone in Napa, but I was a little disappointed in the part of Napa I saw. There was a lot of road construction and even more traffic. Ugh! I will have to give it another try.

Since Napa is so expensive, we actually stayed the night in Vacaville which was about 30 minutes outside of Napa. We checked out their outlet mall, which was a let-down and had some dinner.

The next day we grabbed breakfast at a local spot, Joe's Creekside Cafe. Afterward, we visited the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield, CA. You can tour the factory and get samples of jelly beans. They also had a wine and chocolate tasting that we participated in. Yummy!

The next day we spent time in Roseville for lunch and pottery painting. We also walked around the mall.

And yesterday we were planning on hiking. Right before we were about to leave the power went off expectantly. Therefore, I could not open the garage door to leave. We thought about walking down to another trail but the only way out was blocked by a couple firetrucks and police cars. I guess there was a fire. On the way back, we realized there is a fruit tree in a yard down the street and saw a deer napping in a flower bed. We came back to the house and played Monopoly until the power came back on. Then we drove up to Grass Valley for manicures and a snack. I went with a fun bold hot pink on my nails...perfect for summer!

Now I'm ready for more visitors!

Paint Party

As a military wife, there is always something going on. It is like being back in college and having Alpha Omega socials. I love it! This past Thursday night, our group had a painting party. I heard about these types of events a few years ago when we lived in South Carolina but I have never had an opportunity to go. I have heard how much fun they are. I am so glad I finally had a chance to experience it for myself.

Because Memorial Day is coming up and we're all affiliated with the military, we painted an American flag. It was a lot of fun because it involved some mixed media. Plus I just love being crafty.

The guy next to me was familiar with my hometown, which was fun at first. But then he kept poking fun at me. This was the first time I had ever met him so I wasn't a fan. But I think that is just his personality.

Air Force Love

A while back, I saw a cute graphic on Pinterest which incorporated the Air Force (AF) logo. I knew I had to recreate it for some purpose, but at the time I did not have a place for it.

Fast forward to the new house, I found the perfect spot for it!

My AF Love sign was super easy to make. I found a font that I loved for the letters; I used Playdate which I downloaded for free some time ago. Then I transferred it (probably the hard way) to my wood board and used paint pens for the color. It took me less than 30 minutes from start to finish.

I love the display with my WWII poster and the flag. My brother-in-law got us the flag when he was on one of his past deployments.
