Weekend Trip

Charles wanted to go somewhere this weekend and he put me in charge of figuring out where. There is an area about 2 hours from here called Apple Hill. However, Apple Hill is more happening in the fall during apple season. Right now there are not many farms open. Placerville, which is nearby, seemed to have a few interesting things to do on a Saturday so it won!

We drove down on Friday afternoon and checked into our hotel. We stayed at the Historic Cary House Hotel. It was like stepping back in time because of the antique furniture and the music they played in the lobby. The hotel was right on Main Street so we walked around and into a few shops. We went into one antique store that had a billion troll dolls. Charles had a collection of troll dolls when he was growing up so this made him happy.

When it comes to eating out on vacation, I do my research ahead of time. I do not want to eat crappy food while traveling. Tripadvisor and I are good friends by now. We ended up eating at Heyday Cafe and the food was delicious! And it was conveniently right across from our hotel.

On Saturday, we enjoyed breakfast at a place called Sweetie Pie's. It was a nice local spot with good food. Then we drove around the Apple Hill area. (We will have to go back in the fall for some farm fresh apples and other goodies.) Then we visited Gold Bug Park. We toured a mine and walked around the park. It was a gorgeous day.
We failed to bring a real camera so we are stuck with camera photos. This is from inside the mine.
This mine is closed to the public, but you can see the entrance.
On our way home, Charles took the scenic route. This really meant the curvy road that almost led to car-sick Kristen. But we drove through Coloma which had a nice museum/historic park that we stopped to check out.

It was a short little trip, but it was nice to get out town for a little bit and see more of the area.
